The 1899-00 side line up in front of the Rec's main stand.
Back row, from L: Wright Needham (Trainer,) Gilbert Gillies (Secretary,) Edwin Downie, Walter Arnold, Jim Pilgrim, Jock Bell, Jim Hancock, Jack Fletcher, E Mitchell & W Brinson (Directors.)
Front row, from L: Ted Morley, Frank Thacker, Billy Gooing, Herbert Munday, George Geary, William Ballantyne.

Look closely between Needham and Gillies. See the mysterious floating cap? Look between the back row, and you can just about make out that a line of people, presumably "Look at me!" fans gatecrashing the picture, have been airbrushed out!
The side that played at Sheffield Wednesday's new Hillsborough ground on the opening day of the 1899-00 season looks like it means business. From the left: Pilgrim, Arnold, Ballantyne, Hancock, Thacker, Bell, Fletcher, Gooing, Downie, Munday, Geary, Needham (Trainer.)
The closest thing you'll get to action, from that Sheffield Wednesday game. Jim Pilgrim loafs in the foreground while a Chesterfield Town man receives treatment from Wright Needham, the team's trainer. The camera-conscious man dressed for an afternoon's grouse-beating on Beeley Moor is the referee.
